This study is concerned with the use of text messaging or short message systems (SMS) to enhance learning in Mathematics, particularly algebra, trigonometry and calculus. In spsite of the very limited characters in SMS, the lectures developed included sample problems with schematic diagrams (figures), formulae and solutions.
The research aimed to find out engineering students' assessment of these lecture texts in SMS format. According to the findings, the students considered them to be a useful tool for learning opportunities, especially when teachers were late or absent from class. They also rated the texts as valuable for promoting self-learning and self-pacing, and felt that their illustrations, content, ease of use and flexibility were satisfactory.
